When Diaper Came to India

Diapers were introduced to India in the 1980s and 1990s. The first diaper brand in India was Snuggy, which was launched in 1987. Other brands that followed included Huggies and Mamy Poko.

• Snuggy was India's first diaper brand. Launched in 1987, by Shogun Diapers, Snuggy was acquired by Godrej in 2003. Although Godrej disrupted the market in its early years by pricing its product much lower than the competitors, it could not sustain the momentum for long.

• You must have often seen children of 0-4 years wearing diapers. Actually, children are made to wear diapers so that they do not dirty their bed or pants while pottying on the toilet. This saves you from the hassle of changing clothes frequently. A big advantage of making a child wear diapers is that you do not need to dirty your hands again and again and you can put another diaper after potty or after it is completely filled in the diaper.

~} History of Diaper :-

• Baby diapers came into the market in the 19th century. Before this, women used cotton cloth for their children. In 1887, Maria Allen started its mass production in America and soon it became a safety standard for children all over the world.

~} How is it prepared?

• Disposable diapers have many layers, which work according to the material (potty or urine). It has specially designed fibers that absorb the liquid. The diaper core is made of SAP/gel sheet

~} The materials used in making it are

• Gel sheet/SAP power

• Wold pulp

• Silicon tape sheet

• Non-woven material

• PE sheet (polyethylene or polythene)

~} Smart Diapers :-

• The technology of diapers has also evolved over time. Smart diapers are the result of this. It has a small patch on the front of the diaper which has four small colored squares. These react differently when exposed to certain proteins, water content or bacteria.

• If any abnormal reaction occurs then the color of this square changes. This indicates that now the parents or the child's caregiver should change the diaper.

• The advantage of these smart diapers is that they need to be changed less frequently, which reduces the stress on parents. Some diaper manufacturers have also developed an app that sends notifications to parents or guardians when their baby wets a diaper.

• This diaper has a sensor that senses wetness and sends a notification through a smartphone application. Smart diapers are still in the prototype stage and are 30% more expensive than regular diapers.
